With areas called Melbourne, Vero Beach, and Treasure Coast, you can be sure that the citizens of the city of Sebastian, Florida come from all over the world to start a new chapter of their life on the banks of the Indian River.

Treasure Coast is the area that encompasses Sebastian and other surrounding communities, and it truly is a treasure trove of gems, both literally and figuratively. Famed treasure hunter, Mel Fisher, moved to Sebastian in 1992 to salvage a 1715 fleet of sunken treasure-laden ships off the coastline. Now he owns Mel Fisher’s Treasure Museum to show off his local museum of his finds. And that’s not all. Sebastian is the home of Pelican Island, the first US designated wildlife refuge, a Millennium City, and a Tree City USA.

The City of Sebastian was first incorporated as the Town of Sebastian in 1924 but it’s gone through quite a growth spurt with beautiful parks, public and private elementary schools, middle schools, and a high school just outside of its limits, and an unobstructed view of the Indian River Lagoon intra-coastal waterway from the dazzling riverfront district.

The current population is approximately 22,000. The City has seen rapid growth in the past several years, and industry is anticipated to continue in the next few years.

The City of Sebastian is in proximity to Atlantic beaches, a police department, shops, restaurants, churches of all denominations. The community gathers throughout the year for celebrations and events. In fact, many people are drawn to this area for the near perfect year-round weather. Sebastian has a year-round average temperature of 73.4 degrees

The Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway, one of two in the State of Florida, extends 233 miles. The southern corridor of the byway encompasses the entire Sebastian River Area including Fellsmere. The Byway was designated a Scenic Highway because of the great historical, natural and recreational resources for explorers of all ages. As you travel the byway, you’ll be taken aback by the unique and diverse habitat, special places and breathtaking scenery that await you.
